Attention “foodie” friends! 🙂 Here at The River Bend Retreat we are so lucky to have several farmers markets, orchards and pick-your-own farms in the surrounding area. Here are a few of our favorites:
Shepherdstown Farmers Market
The Shepherdstown Farmers Market is open on Sunday mornings from late March through December. They are located on South King St. near the intersection of S. King and German St. behind the library. Swing by and pick yourself up some gorgeous, locally-grown produce, meats, and craft items.
Cronice Market Place
312 S. Main Street, Boonsboro, MD
Cronice Market Place in nearby Boonsboro is a large, outdoor produce market that carries a wide assortment of seasonal fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants. The family-owned business has been in operation at this same location for almost a century. A stop at this longstanding, local gem is sure to delight!
Orr’s Farm Market
682 Orr Drive, Martinsburg, WV
As its name suggests, Orr’s Farm Market in Martinsburg is both a farm market and a large pick-your-own farm. Orr’s charming market is stocked full of fresh produce, dairy products, meats, and bakery items, plus a delightful collection of home decor, handmade items and plants.
We are frequent visitors throughout the summer months when Orr’s offers pick-your-own strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and grapes. The harvest is both beautiful and delicious and the P.Y.O. experience is fun for kids and adults alike.
Gardenhour Orchards
22511 Gardenhour Road, Smithsburg, MD
Smithsburg, MD in the northern part of Washington County is home to several great farm markets, but Gardenhour Orchards is our go-to especially around August for peach season. Their peaches are heavenly, and some are as big as softballs! Choose from a ready-to-go box or pick your own. Then follow-up with another trip to Gardenhour’s in September for some of their delicious apples.
